Frenemies

(I know that the title is really bad, but it was the only suiting thing I could come up with.)

I have a lot of musician friends, and a lot of them are in my year in school. I am good friends with all of them, and one is actually one of my best friends, but we are also the worst enemies!

We help each other, and support each other, until we play on the same concert or competition. (Competitions does not include me. I do not like to compete in music.) Sometimes I find myself wishing that my friends will play wrong.

I actually have a quite recent example. About two weeks ago my year were having a pretty big concert, and I played Meditation from Thaïs by Massanet, and I made a huge miss. Up to that miss I  had played rather well, but it was not really the same after it. When I was finished, one of my best friends, whom I mentioned above, played a piece by Liszt on the piano, and I found myself thinking: “Make a miss, a huge miss. Bigger than the one I did”, and she did! She made a much bigger mistake than I did, and I have felt so bad about it ever since!

That is how musicians are. We love and despise one another. I have heard other people talk about it, and we do it all the time. I have a little feeling that the classical group is the worst. Sometimes, it is all about competition. Not only when we compete, but also on practice and on concerts.

A little flower to enlighten your mood, after I destroyed it with my little story.

I hope I will be seeing you again soon!
